🛑✋ How not to come across as DESPERATE when interviewing with investment banks?
Financial services is an industry that values status.🕴️
Many students carry this MISCONCEPTION that by offering their internship services for free they will get hired.
Banks don't want to hire someone just because they're CHEAP 🏷️.
They want to hire someone because they can add value.
Invest in yourself and stand out from the crowd of students.
Ask yourself, do you know how to?
1. Build a financial model from scratch
2. Pull together an investment deck or
3. Value a tech start-up or a unicorn?
All this by yourself?
If no, then don't expect senior bankers at boutiques to spend their time training you.
Also remember, bankers hire students partly because of their technical skills..
...but also because they are likable.
So make sure you invest in your people skills. 🤝
They have bigger fish to fry in these challenging markets.
When I worked at Goldman Sachs, seniors were always moaning on how challenging it is to train new bankers.
